Durham School Festival of Drama & Music
Durham School House Music and Drama
The origins of the House Music and Drama competition go way back into the 600 year history of Durham School. Some of the School’s most famous alumni, including celebrities like Alexander Armstrong, have honed their skills in the competition.
This year, in an ambitious first for the School, both the music and drama competitions are coming together on one evening at The Tyne Theatre and Opera House. Previous venues for the individual competitions have included Sage Gateshead, Durham Cathedral and the Gala Theatre.
As well as highlighting the enormous performing talent amongst Durham School’s pupils, it is also an opportunity for every pupil to perform in front of a sell-out audience. From the smallest, shiest eleven year old voice, to the boldest and most confident Sixth Former, every pupil has a role to play.
Houses work together, with the help of the Director of Music and Director of Drama, to choose which pieces they will perform – resulting in an eclectic mix that can be anything from Chopin to Wham, Shakespeare to Monty Python.
The event will be a real treat for everyone in the audience, and we are delighted that this year’s event will be hosted at The Tyne Theatre and Opera House.
