Volunteer Call Out

Tyne Theatre & Opera House is looking for volunteers for an exciting new project “The Drury Lane of the North” which will explore traditional stagecraft and the history of performance during the nineteenth century.

Performance Calendar Research Volunteers

Are you interested in local history and research?  We are creating a performance database for the theatre – beginning in 1867 when the theatre was built. Volunteers will need basic computer literacy skills as the role will include online research.

Stage Machinery Volunteers

We are looking for volunteers with experience in stagehand work to assist in the restoration and maintenance of the theatre’s original wooden stage machinery. This is a unique opportunity to work with one of the only surviving examples of Victorian stage machinery in the UK. It includes four bridges (lifts), two demon traps, a grave trap as well as many other fascinating features. This new volunteer group will be trained to operate the machinery culminating in a presentation at our International Conference which will be held in Autumn 2023.

If you would like to know more about either of these opportunities, please contact Rachel Snape, Project Administrator on [email protected] or call 0191 243 1171
