Venue Facilities FAQ's

What refreshments are available at the Theatre?

Tyne Theatre & Opera House has bar facilities on each level selling a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks as well as a range of confectionary. Please note, our bars are card/contactless only (there is one point of sale on the Stalls level where you can buy drinks and refreshments with cash). We do not serve hot food at the Theatre, but can recommend places to stay, eat or drink on the Nearby page on our website.

Where shall I eat, drink or stay nearby?

The Tyne Theatre and Opera House is a city centre venue less than 5 minutes from Central Station. Visit our Nearby page to see recommended pubs/bars, restaurants & hotels close to the venue.

Do you offer a cloakroom facility / do you search bags?

There are no cloakroom facility for larger items within the venue and patrons are responsible for finding alternative storage for larger items, such as rucksacks and luggage, outside of the venue. The venue takes no responsibility for late admission or non-admission as a result of this policy. Please be aware that for the safety and comfort of our customers, we do perform bag searches.

What can I bring with me to the theatre?

All bags are subject to search by our security team and we politely request that guests only bring essential items to our theatre.

No large bags are allowed as there are no temporary storage facilities within the theatre; the venue takes no responsibility for late admission or non-admission as a result of this policy. Exceptions will only be made for those with medical requirements and/or additional needs. Where possible, we ask that this is communicated to the venue ahead of your visit for ease of entry via [email protected]

Please note that the following items are NOT permitted inside the venue:

  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Hot food
  • Glass or cans
  • Illegal drugs or substances
  • Knives, firearms or weapons of any kind
  • Video cameras, professional cameras and recording devices
  • Flammable liquids in any container
  • Helmets and full face masks, excluding clear visors
  • Animals (except service animals to aid persons with disabilities)
  • Fireworks, confetti, glitter bombs or sprays
  • Laser pens/pointers
  • Balloons
  • Anything else which we deem to ruin the environment or viewing experience of others

Do you have a place for buggies / prams?

We have a buggy park at the back of the auditorium Stalls level, however, space is limited so we ask that where possible, you leave your buggy at home.

Do you have booster seats?

We do have booster seats but they are limited – please ask a member of staff upon arrival. It’s also perfectly acceptable if you want to keep your child on your knee as long as they’re not obstructing the view for people behind you.

Accessibility

Tyne Theatre & Opera House stalls are fully accessible for wheelchair and mobile aid users with ramps in foyer/box office entrance and to Bistro Bar. Wheelchair user spaces are limited to four per show and are bookable directly with our box office team. Due to the age of the theatre we do not have a lift to higher levels.

There is an accessible toilet at the back of the Stalls, there are other toilet facilities on all levels.
